For me, it is always fun to watch a game where I love both teams. I am fully aware that for many “fans,” this idea of rooting for two opposing teams at the same time is unfathomable.
What can I say? The advantage of following many teams means sometimes you get to watch a game where no matter who wins or loses, you can remain perfectly content.
Beginning tomorrow, July 29th, my Minnesota Twins are in New York for a three-game series against my New York Mets (the only baseball team in New York City that I acknowledge). And I am excited.
On Sunday morning, July 28th, 2024, the Twins are 57-46 and 4.5 games out of first in the AL Central, but well within the Wild Card hunt. The Mets, who unfortunately are in the same division as the Phillies, are 55-49 and 10 games out of 1st in the NL East. But they are solidly in the Wild Card race.
Doing a little research, I find that this will be the 9th Mets-Twins series. Overall, the Mets have won 15 of the games and the Twins have won 10. This is how it breaks down:
- 2002, Mets 2 games – Twins 1 game
- 2004, Twins 3 games – Mets 0 games
- 2007, Twins 2 games – Mets 1 game
- 2010, Mets 2 games – Twins 1 game
- 2013, Mets 3 games – Twins 0 games
- 2016, Mets 3 games – Twins 0 games
- 2019, Mets 3 games – Twins 1 game
- 2023,Twins 2 games – Mets 1 game
Here are just a few of the things I am looking forward to seeng in this year’s series:
- With just days left before the trade deadline, what surprise additions or subtractions will there be for either lineup?
- If Sue is open to it, I would like to watch the SNY broadcast of at least one of the games to hear what the best broadcasting team in baseball think about my hometown team
- I am interested to see how the Twins pitch Nimmo, Lindor, and Alonso
- The Twins last trip to the Big Apple to play the team who shall not be named, was disastrous, how will this trip to New York end up?
- How will Royce Lewis do at Citi Field?
- How will new Met Jesse Winker do in his first series in front of the hometown crowd?
So many questions. Let’s go Twins! Let’s go Mets!
