Why Baseball, Books, and the Grateful Dead matter

Let’s Go Mets

Tonight the Mets begin their NLCS series against the Yankees of the West Coast. This first game of the series will be on FOX which means I will actually get to see it.

Some numbers:

  • Historically the Dodgers have an all-time 362-282 record versus the Mets (Advantage: Dodgers)
  • This season the Dodgers had 4-2 record versus the Mets (Advantage: Dodgers)
  • Oddsmakers list the Dodgers as -163 moneyline favorites, while giving the underdog Mets +137 moneyline odds.

None of that though matters. Right now, the Mets are playing better. Hitting for more power. Driving in more runs.

Yeah, call me biased but if I was a betting man, my money would be on the Mets. It is their year. It is the year of Grimace, and OMG, and the Playoff Pumpkin.

Vientos is raking it. He is hitting .429 with 12 Hits and 7 RBI. Lindor is clutch, clutch, clutch. And the Polar Bear is doing what he does best, hitting bombs. (Offensive Advantage: Mets)

The Mets starting rotation of Quintana, Manaea, and Servino is heads and shoulders above what LA is having to run out onto the field (Starting Pitching Advantage: Mets).

It is only in Relief Pitching that the Dodgers really have an edge. And that, just barely. They have been having to go to their bullpen sooner and more often than the Mets. And the Mets bullpen will be several days more rested. (Relief Pitching Advantage: Dodgers).

My prediction: Mets win the NLCS 4-2.

Let’s Go Mets!
