Why Baseball, Books, and the Grateful Dead matter

Book and Poetry Reviews

“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.” ~Haruki Murakami

With October rapidly drawing to a close, I will be transitioning to Book Reviews of other genres and to Poetry Reviews.

I am the kind of person who needs to let things sit with me for a long time. I have always admired those who have the capacity to quickly absorb and articulate their experiences and feelings. For me it can take years.

What that means when reviewing a book or poem is that I need to have internalized it, lived and wrestled with a work for a period of time before I feel I can say much about it. The books and poems I will review here going forward, like the Horror books I have been reviewing, will often have been first read 5, 10, even 40 years earlier. I am reviewing them now because there is something in them that has stayed with me.

I had thought of dedicating each month to the various genres and categories of the books and poems that I want to review (as I have done with Horror Fiction in the month of October here). But in the end have found that plan to be too constrictive. I have too many interests and too many whims.

At this point, I will be reviewing just one more Horror book tomorrow and then you will be seeing other reviews here. I hope you enjoy!
