Finally, the long dark night of the soul is over. Tomorrow there will be boxscores that matter again and game summaries worth reading closely. It is Opening Day!
My local nine, The Minnesota Twins, are in St. Louis to play the Cardinals today. While the Mets are in Houston and the Pirates in Miami.
Baseball in the North Country is an iffy thing this time of year. Once Minnesota had indoor baseball, the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. That meant that no matter the weather, baseball could be played. Now with outdoor baseball again (Target Field), weather matters again.
The Minnesota Home Opener is just a week away, on April 3rd. Early April in the Twin Cities, as you can imagine, can be quite wet and cold. The long range forecast (and we all know how accurate those tend to be) is for highs in the high-50s and low-60s. These are not the kind of temps that make sitting in the stands a lot of fun. But the games will be on television, and so I will be watching! Will you?
Happy Opening Day!
