On May 20th, 1984, 26,731 baseball fans under the teflon sky of the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome got to witness history: the first of 354 career victories by the greatest pitcher of all time.5-4.

Over his Hall-of-Fame worthy career, Clemens had a ..649 Winning Percentage (24-13) against the Minnesota Twins, my local nine. The only team that struggled more against the Rocket was Cleveland, they were a hapless 27-8 (.771 W%).
Anyone who loves baseball knows that once you start looking at baseball stats you quickly go down a rabbit hole. Here are some interesting numbers I found along the way:
- Clemens threw 7 Shutouts and 12 Complete Games against Cleveland
- Clemens also threw 12 Complete Games against the Royals, Angels, and Mariners
- The team that Clemens had the most Complete games against was the Brewers, 13
- Over his career Clemens struck out 355 Tigers and 354 Cleveland players. (He struck out 4672 batters in his lifetime)
When you are at a baseball game and a rookie gets his first hit, homer, or victory. it is a celebratory moment. If possible, the ball is collected for the player to commemorate the moment. Everyone on the field knows how truly special the moment is because they have all had the same kind of moment. And everyone in the stands understands because we all secretly (or not so secretly) wish we had had a chance for a similar moment in our lives.
On this day in 1984, 26,731 lucky fans got to share a once in a life-time moment with the Rocket. 41 years later, I wonder how many of those who are still alive, ar grateful for, even appreciative of, what they were fortunate enough to have been a part of?
And if you or I had been there, would we be recalling the moment today? Or other such singular moments in our grace-filled lives?
