Why Baseball, Books, and the Grateful Dead matter

Midsummer

Next week is the Midsummer Classic, otherwise known as the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The only other use of the term midsummer that comes readily to my mind is Shakespearian, A Midsummers Night Dream. In my mind that seems quite appropriate.

I must confess that I often wonder about those who do not like baseball in the same way that I wonder about those who do not like to read.

What a poor inner life I think it would be to live without Literature and without baseball. In my heart of hearts, I do wonder if the cure to the Madness that is Trump is not ultimately those two very things, baseball and Literature.

Something to ponder this midsummer day.
