When I was growing up in Townsend, Montana, we had a movie theatre that showed two movies a week. The first one on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday was always a newer one. By “newer” I mean released within the previous couple of years. (For example, it would take at least a year to a year-and-a-half for a popular “new release” like Poseidon Adventure to make it down to our show house.). When that one left town the Saturday and Sunday movie was always some “Classic.” For example Gone with the Wind or a great John Ford Western.
As a teenager I went to both movies every week. Never missed a one. Oh how times have changed.
These days I have little interest in movies with some exceptions. One of those exceptions is baseball movies.
Here are some of my favorite baseball movies:
- The Pride of the Yankees (1942)
- It Happens Every Spring (1949)
- The Bad News Bears (1976)
- Bull Durham (1988)
- Field of Dreams (1989)
- A League of Their Own (1992)
- The Sandlot (1993)
- The Rookie (2002)
- Trouble with the Curve (2002)
What did I leave off the list?
