On August 6th, 1967, against Chicago White Sox, future, Hall-of-Famer Brooks Robinson hit into the fourth triple play of his career for a major league record.

Yesterday ClimbingSky featured a bad day by an obscure rookie named, ironically Sam Hope. Today we feature one by The Greatest Third Baseman of All Time, Brooks Robinson (pictured above with your’s truly).
Brooks Robinson played on a lot of great teams. And since he hit in the middle of the order, he came up to bat quite often with men on base. On August 6th, 1967, there were at least two other Orioles on base and no outs. But luck that day was against him. He apparently hit a ball to exactly the wrong place. And just like that, a promising inning for Baltimore was over.
But it did not matter. The Orioles defeated the White Sox 4-0. And other than hitting into the triple play, Brooks actually had a pretty good day going 2 for 4 and scoring one of the 4 runs.
As every baseball fan knows, baseball is a game of inches and skill and luck. Brooks’s skill that day cancelled out his bad luck as it had on the three previous days that he had done the same thing. For the great Brooks Robinson, that single inning was just a blip. For Sam Hope yesterday, it was a career.
