Since I work so far ahead here at ClimbingSky, I keep a calendar that highlights the days that already have a posting scheduled for them. August 26th was highlighted on that calendar. But it turns out that I did NOT have anything written or scheduled for today.
Let me rectify that now, at least for myself.
My Local Nine, the Minnesota Twins, have been in a free-fall since the trade deadline. Not wholly unpredictable. But what is unpredictable is the struggles that All-Star Pitcher Joe Ryan has been having. I chalk most of this up to the fact that Christian Vasquez, his regular catcher is out. While I have confidence in catcher Ryan Jeffers’s bat, I have little confidence in his game calling and his ability to throw out runners. If I were the Twins, I think in the off-season that I would have Jeffers move to First Base and bring in some good defensive catcher to platoon with Vasquez.
On the plus side of my Sports Life, Fulham FC, of the English Premier League, have managed two points out of their first two matches. Including one point against the Yankees of England, Manchester United.
At the same time, my other soccer team, 1. FC Union Berlin, won in their first Bundesliga match of the season.
In the end, I am relearning what I relearn every year: rooting for underdogs has highs and lows. And I would not have it any other way.
