In addition to Christmas Mysteries, another British tradition is the Christmas Ghost Story. The most famous of these Christmas Ghost Stories, of course, is A Christmas Carol by Dickens.
There is just something wonderful about sitting in front of a fire reading tales of murder and haunted houses. And even if you do not have a fireplace or live in a part of the Northern Hemisphere where snow and cold are not common, there is still something special about reading dark tales on dark December nights.
“Christmas Meeting” by Rosemary Timperley is a very short story. So short, in fact, that I hesitate to even tease the plot here, since it is only two pages long.
It is the perfect Ghost Story. It gives you shivers, and if you are reading it alone in the dark, you will no doubt find yourself checking over your shoulder to make sure that you are indeed alone. What more could anyone want from a horror story?
I found “Christmas Meeting” anthologized in Roald Dahl’s Book of Ghost Stories, a volume I have recommended here before. Do yourself a favor and find the book and read the story. Or better yet, purchase it as a gift for a loved one.
