
Here in the North Country, we finally have temperatures above 40 degrees after a brutal, arctic January. Meanwhile, in Fort Myers, Florida—where the Minnesota Twins hold camp—the temps are in the high 70s and low 80s. It is perfect weather for America’s pastime.
Knowing that baseball is being played somewhere where the sun is shining and people are wearing shorts feels even more hopeful than in winters past—especially here in Minnesota, where ICE enforcement actions continue to display inhumanity and hate.
Seventy-nine years ago this spring, Jackie Robinson began the process of integrating baseball and, by extension, American society. Today, Trump and his aggressive enforcement teams are attempting to undo the progress Jackie sparked. But just as it was 79 years ago, I believe that in the end, justice will prevail.
Spring will come. The Twins will play. And when the dust settles, History will piss on the graves of Trump and his movement
