For the most part, inter-league play is one of the best ideas that Major League Baseball ever came up with. But having said that, for some reason the American League Central Division Minnesota Twins are ending their season this year with a 3-game series at the National League Eastern Division Philadelphia Phillies. That makes no sense at all.

In the month of September, all games should be between division opponents only. So the Twins should be playing Kansas City, Detroit, Cleveland, and the White Sox. And the Phillies should be playing the Mets, Braves, Nationals, and Marlins. That is September baseball. That is how division champions should be decided.

Mets fans should be furious that the Phillies get to play the lowly Twins while the Mets need to play their division rival Marlins. It seems quite unfair, even to me who has never been a Phillies fan.

Where is the drama? Where is the joy of “hurting” a division opponent’s play-off hopes at the end of the season?

Hopefully, next year Major League Baseball will do better with the scheduling.
