LISTENING NOTES: Chose the album because of Jim Hall and was not disappointed. His guitar playing remained a highlight throughout. Art Farmer was relatively new to me, but the warm and inviting sound of his flugelhorn immediately appealed to me. “Fine Crystal” emerged as my favorite track. Steve Swallow was another new discovery whose bass playing caught my attention. The concept of adapting Swedish folk tunes into jazz proved surprisingly engaging and gave the album a distinctive atmosphere. A recording I expect to revisit often.
