LISTENING NOTES:
This album immediately felt like the perfect Sunday morning companion. Jim Hall’s guitar was as warm and conversational as ever, while Red Kelly provided a solid and tasteful bass foundation. One of the most enjoyable surprises was hearing Red Mitchell at the piano rather than on bass, which gave the trio a distinctive character. “Willow Weep for Me” and “When I Have You” emerged as favorite tracks, though the album succeeds primarily because of its overall mood and balance. This is unquestionably an analog must-have and one I expect to revisit often.
